Specialists Changing Corneal Transplant Paradigm
India shoulders the largest burden of global blindness and infections of the eye. Sometimes vision loss can be mild, but just enough to affect a person’s ability to participate in daily activities such as reading, watching television, walking safely and driving. Whenever vision is reduced from corneal disorders like infections, corneal injuries, and degenerative diseases, a corneal transplant can be an effective means of restoring vision.
At Ruby Hall Clinic, we pride ourselves on providing specialist eye care of the highest standards, using the latest diagnostic, imaging and therapeutic techniques to achieve the best outcome for each of our patients. With an intricate understanding of one of the most delicate and important parts of the body, we have used the latest in technology to undertake over 1950 corneal transplants since our first surgery way back in 1993.
If you or your loved ones suffer from one of the following conditions, a corneal transplant might be the option for you:
- Eye Infections
- Pseudophakic Corneal Decompensation
- Fuchs’ Corneal Dystrophy
- Keratoconus
- Corneal Dystrophies
- Chemical Burn
- Traumatic Injury
- Ocular Surface Diseases

Our Patients Speak of their Experience
Opening my eyes to happiness
“A rare eye infection troubled me for quite a few years and I was slowly losing my eyesight. I lost my belief in being able to see once again. A socially active individual, I soon became a recluse and refused to get any kind of help. Hope came knocking when my daughter took me to the doctors at Ruby Hall Clinic who suggested a corneal transplant. The process was very smooth and almost pain-free and all my inhibitions were laid to rest. A year later, here I am happily reading stories to my grandchildren while enjoying the beauty of this colourful world.”

Myth Vs Facts
Myth: Eye transplant is the solution for all eyes
Fact: Eye transplant is a misnomer. It is only a cornea that we can transplant. Only the diseases that affect the cornea can be treated with a corneal transplant. If the vision is lost due to disease of any other part of the eye such as retina, lens or vitreous; corneal transplant does not help in these cases.
Myth: I have a previous history of cataract and so I cannot pledge my eyes for donation
Fact: Yes, you can and we warmly welcome such gestures. You have the power to change someone’s life and make them see again. You can donate your eyes even if you have a previous history of cataract, provided you have been operated/treated for cataract or glaucoma.
Myth: Most corneal transplants fail
Fact: Corneal transplants have a relatively high success rate. Compared to most other organ transplants, corneal transplants have a 5-year survival rate varying from seventy to ninety percent, depending on the indication for surgery. For many conditions that have a good prognosis, the survival rate is as high as ninety-five percent.
